The control number (Box D) in Form W-2 is a code used by your payroll company (if your business has one) to identify individual W-2 returns. Note that it is optional and the IRS doesn’t require or use the number.
If you are filing Form W-2 through 123PayStubs, you are not required to fill in the control number.
